Citing intolerance and freedom of worship amongst the SDA in the four counties, Nasa principal Musalia Mudavadi reckoned that Nasa supporters would not participate in the polls which the IEBC on Thursday said would be a repeat of impunity and chaotic.
“They are saying they that security would be beefed up to enhance the voting, why are they forcing us into what w don’t want. They said that this exercise is free for those who want to vote to do so, and those who don’t want to be left,” ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi told a press briefing in Nairobi.
He added: “IEBC knows very well that it has done a very illegal process, so we don’t want to be part of an illegality.”
The Raila Odinga team has reiterated its earlier push for election boycott amongst its supporters terming the latest decision by IEBC
Mr Mudavadi maintained that the elections carried on Thursday didn’t reflect the will of the people, adding that “Mr Odinga opted out of the race on October 10 and so the IEBC refused to remove his name from the ballot."
This is the first time the Nasa team has addressed the media, since Wednesday after the transformation of National Super Alliance to the National Resistance Movement, a move that has created a disquiet among a section of politicians.
IEBC is set to conduct fresh elections in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori counties after it announced that the four areas could not hold elections, owing to the security challenges.
