This comes after parents raised serious complaints over the event which the DP was to grace.
During the trip, the DP was to preside over a fundraiser at Murang’a Boys’ High School and also visit Kiairathe Secondary School in Kangema.
It is not clear why the DP made the decision and if the event will proceed in his absence as no reason was given for the cancellation.
Speaking to a local daily, Kang’ata disclosed that “the Deputy President did not give any reasons as to why his visit had been cancelled”.
Two weeks ago, parents took to the media in protest, claiming that they were being forced by the school administration to pay Sh 40000 each for the fundraiser.
Parents complained that the school administration had planted wealthy parents to pass binding resolutions that had proved to be a financial burden to many of them.
Among the costs that they claim to have been include Sh10,000 per student for teacher motivation and Sh5,800 tuition with no receipt being issued for the payments.
A section of the parents further alleged that in 2015, a fund-raiser was held by the same school at Weston Hotel in Nairobi with a total of Sh 40 Million raised at the event that was graced by the DP.
The event which was to be held on 06 April has been postponed indefinitely as parents and the school administration hold meetings to discuss the way forward.
