President Uhuru Kenyatta has recognized athletics legend Eliud Kipchoge with the highest civilian award-Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H.)
Uhuru awards Eliud Kipchoge with the highest civilian award
While presenting the award, the head of state praised Kipchoge for his conquest in athletics that continues to inspire the world.
"Eliud Kipchoge who is alive and present with us has also inspired the world that no human effort is futile…That we can achieve what has never been achieved before.
"Eliud Kipchoge remains the greatest of our time and our duty is to emulate the level of discipline and determination in our pursuit for a better Kenya for all. His latest conquest will be a constant reminder that we can achieve the very best as individuals and as a nation.
"And in honor of all our heroes, past, present and future, I wish to invite and recognize Eliud Kipchoge with the order of the Elder of the Golden Heart," part of Kenyatta's Mashujaa day speech.
There are 8 categories of Presidential awards, the highest being Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (CGH).
The CGH is broken down into three classes;
1. Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (C.G.H.),
2. Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H.)
3. Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (M.G.H.)
That means, Eliud Kipchoge has attained the 2nd highest honor in Kenya. The Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya is the highest civilian award.
