President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Friday watched in admiration as their daughter Ngina Kenyatta addressed the African Philanthropy Forum.

Ms Ngina Kenyatta, who is the Director of the Kenyatta Trust spoke on the need to empower the youth and give them opportunities during the forum held at the Strathmore Business School in Nairobi.

She said the organization’s goal was to change and transform the lives of the underprivileged communities in Kenya through education, mentorship and economic empowerment.

The trust’s main agenda is to create a new generation of young individuals with a progressive mindset to feel the needs of the ever-changing generation,” Ms Kenyatta said.

Speaking at the forum on Friday, Ms Kenyatta gave an example of a young man named Moses Etot from Turkana County, who is taking a course in petroleum engineering under the sponsorship of the trust in one of the top universities in China.

African Philanthropy Forum (APF) is an organization that believes in strategic and effective giving which aims at empowering the youth to create more job opportunities for them, according to its founder and chairman Gbenga Oyebode.

He said the organisation decided to partner with the Kenyatta Trust in order to consolidate and push its agenda of giving in areas of youth employment, leadership and education.

Uhuru calls for youth empowerment

President Kenyatta urged African leaders to prioritise the creation of a conducive environment that will unlock the potential of the continent’s youth to enable them to contribute effectively to development.

We must ingrain in our youth a sense of African pride so that they completely transform our approach as to how we exploit the vast wealth and riches of our African earth,” President Kenyatta said.

He emphasized that time has come for leaders to publicly declare that no young person will be left behind and that their voices matter the most.
