Mystery ‘KDF’ man who visited Sharon Otieno murder suspect in police custody speaks out for the first time

Lukas Ouko-the man who met Okoth Obado's PA discloses his mission

Lukas Ouko-the KDF man who met Sharon Otieno murder suspect Michael Oyamo has disclosed his mission during the controversial visit that KDF has distanced itself from.

Daily Nation which first broke the story of the controversial visit reported that the man identified as Lukas Ouma insisted that he is a member of the military based in Mtongwe Navy base.

He added that his visit which lasted 20 minutes was official and had nothing to do with Sharon Otieno’s murder, maintaining that he is a law-abiding citizen and is ready to defend his mission.

The publication quoted him saying that he “was sent officially to find out whether Mr Oyamo had made necessary clearance from the Navy, which he left sometime in 2014.”

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

“I did not discuss Sharon’s death with him. In fact, I was accompanied by a police officer, Inspector Wafula, and only took less than 20 minutes with Oyamo…My line of questioning Oyamo was simply about his clearance from the military and not related to Sharon’s death.” He clarified.

Nyanza criminal investigations boss Michael Barasa confirmed that police are following up on the matter as “he (Ouko) produced the documents before he was allowed to meet the suspect”.

Ouko made the clarification after Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) spokesperson Paul Njuguna distanced KDF from the controversial visit, stating that the military had not sent an emissary to Homa Bay Police Station where the suspect is held.

At a press conference on Sunday, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji called for investigations into Ouko’s visit.

He further cautioned the public to stop speculating over Ms Otieno’s murder.
