The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has appealed to the over 20 students who were injured by police during demonstrations last week not to leave for their homes after the University of Nairobi Senate on Tuesday closed the institution indefinitely.
The University Senate said the the closure was due to the "deteriorating security situation" at the institution.

Students were asked to vacate the halls of residence with immediate effect, not later than 9.00am on Tuesday.

IPOA urged the students to record statements at its Upper Hill Offices in Nairobi for investigations and action taken to the police officers found guilty of using excessive force to quell last week's demos at the university.
On Monday night, angry students at the University of Nairobi (UoN) rioted at the institution.
The students were protesting against the police brutality witnessed against them last week when they demanded for the release of their former student leader and now Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
Amateur videos circulating across social media showed General Service Unit officers clobbering students in their halls of residence while others were forced to frog march at gunpoint at the institution.
Already the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched investigations after police allegedly beat up students in the university during the demos.
"IPOA on its own motion has proceeded to dispatch its Rapid Response Unit to investigate the matter," head of communications Dennis Oketch said in a statement on Friday.
Oketch said IPOA will investigate the allegations of assault and any other misconduct against the Police Officers.
