It has been a tumultuous bitter-sweet week for Kesses parliamentary aspirant Swarup “Kiprop” Mishra.

Last week, Mishra was viciously attacked by his rival supporters while he was holding a meeting at the Royalton Hotel.

He sustained neck and stomach injuries that saw him admitted at Mediheal hospital in Eldoret Town.

Fast forward to this week and Mishra was on Wednesday morning declared the winner in the Jubilee Primaries for Kesses Constituency.

Sweet victory

Mishra popularly known as “Kiprop” in Eldoret, beat the incumbent MP James Bett and will now fly the Jubilee’s flag at the August general elections.

Mishra garnered an impressive 23,137 votes against Uasin Gishu county assembly speaker Isaac Terer who came in second with 4,355 votes.

MP Bett came in third with 2,387 votes.`

Mishra who is the chairman of Mediheal Group of Hospitals was born in India but later moved to Kenya 18 years ago and acquired citizenship.

“I am more Kalenjin than a number of Kalenjins in this region. My name is Kiprop arap Chelule. Kiprop means born during the rain while Chelule means from outside baptised into the community. My clan is Chepkendi, Nandi,” he has been quoted saying before.

Together with his wife Palavi, the couple later took up jobs as lecturers at Moi University, while practising as gynaecologists on part time basis.

They later invested in the medical sector and and started hospitals in Eldoret, Nakuru as well as Kigali, Rwanda and now employs more than 1000 people.
