When it comes to shopping, knowing where to get the best of the best is key. If you’re into high end fashion then there’s no limiting you to Kenya’s budding industry. However, if you’re budget demands a stronger relationship with thrift shopping, then here’s ten really great places to get cool outfits.
1. Gikomba
This is arguably one of the biggest second hand markets in Kenya. Situated at Kamkunji Road, Gikomba hosts thousands of sellers who are mostly trading clothes. If you’re an early riser, take a trip on Saturday morning and get yourself a new wardrobe.
2. Toi Market
Also called Adams, this is a hot spot for many celebrities who love to thrift shop. From Octopizzo to Brenda Wairimu, the list is endless. Situated on Ngong Road just behind Adams Arcade, the market is dived into two. Closer to Ngong road is the somewhat expensive side with prices rising up to Ksh 3000 and further down opposite Toi Primary is the cheaper side of Toi. While sticking to the Adam’s side sounds like a great deal, dare to take a ride down Kibera and find the hidden treasures.
3. Globe Cinema
Probably the main cause of human traffic along that road, globe cinema hosts a long line of stalls selling unique designer outfits for prices less than a thousand shillings. Go a bit later in the evening and you’ll find hawkers selling clothes on the pavements. You can get great jeans for just Ksh200.
4. Mutindwa
There was a time when this was the go to place for all things second hands. Now with the new structural developments along Buruburu not much is sold. However, Mutindwa Market is a great place to get second hand shoes and bags.
5. Muthurwa
Found in the CBD, this is a great place to quickly shop at lunch hours. Although it’s not so much second hand, the clothes are sold at very fair prices.
6. Bus Station CBD
You would not believe the kind of great stuff on offer. The stalls are found in the heart of the station. Prices range between Ksh50 - Ksh500 for amazing brand new outfits. Do have to change your outfit in the middle of the day on a very tight budget? No worries, the Bus Station is the place to be.
7. City stalls along Moi Avenue
Discount is your best bet. Don’t fret walking into stalls in the CBD. Instead of asking for what they have on show, ask for the discounted outfits they sell on the side. Usually, the prices range between Ksh 300 –ksh 500 for great dresses and male shirts.
8. Ngara
If you’re slow on what’s trending in the fashion world then make your way to Ngara. Just after the globe cinema roundabout and directly opposite Fig Tree is a long line of shops selling designer second hand clothes. Prices are a bit higher than other places because of the trending top quality clothes they offer. However, it’s a great place to invest if you want to change your wardrobe. They’ve got it all.
