Tools and Supplies needed

    Steps

    A. Extracting oil through cooking

    1. Peel twelve avocados

Having washed those avocados, cut each one of them by half around the pit. Use the knife to cut in a scooping motion until the two halves separate. Scoop out the fruit of the avocado and place it in a food processor or blender.

    2. Puree the avocados

Turn the food processor or blender onto the puree setting. Mix the avocado fruit until it forms a consistent paste. Pour the blended avocado and put it in a medium-sized plot.

    3. Cook the avocados on medium heat

Heat the avocados on medium heat at the oven. Keep stirring for five minutes. When the mixture starts to boil, the oil will rise to the top.

    4. Cook until the mixture gets dark

Cook the mixture until the colour changes from a light green to dark brown and the water has evaporated.

    5. Scoop the avocado mixture into a bowl

Pour the mixture into a bowl. Once it has stopped cooking. Place a clean, thin cloth on top of the bowl, then holding the cloth in place around the rim of the bowl, turn the bowl up-side down and pinch the corners of the cloth together so that you’re left with a sack of avocado.

    6. Squeeze to strain the avocado

Squeeze the sack of avocado over a bowl to strain out the oil. The oil should come out drop by drop into the bowl. Change your grip regularly and squeeze for more than a minute until no more oil is coming out.

    7. Pour the oil into a container

Having squeezed out all the oil, pour it into a bottle or a container that can be covered with a lid. The avocado oil is ready for use.

    B. Extracting oil by pressing avocado skins

    1. Remove the fruit from the skins of the twelve avocados

Cut the avocados by half then scoop out the fruit and set it aside.

    2. Place the avocado skins in an orange press.

Take the avocado skins and stack them on top of each other. Place them in an orange press where you will press the skins for oil.

    3. Press the avocado skins

Pull down the lever of the orange press until the press touches the avocado skins. Use a lot of force to pull down the lever. The mallet will press the avocado skins together and squeeze the oil out.

Consequently, the avocado oil will drip into the reservoir under the press.

    4. Press until the oil stops dripping

Press the avocado skins repeatedly until you extract all the oil. Adjust the skins so that you can press the untouched areas.

    5. Strain the oil

Take the reservoir away from the bottom. Remove residues of some avocado skin that may be floating on the oil in the reservoir.

Purify the oil further by straining it against a coffee filter. The filter will catch any chunks of avocado that may have gotten into the reservoir

    6. Let the oil filter, then bottle it

Keep the strainer over the bowl overnight to allow enough time for all the oil to filter into the bowl. Pour the oil into a bottle and seal it.
