Lawyer Assa Nyakundi's case over killing of his son received a new development after DCI boss George Kinoti on Tuesday disregarded the man slaughter charge against the lawyer.

Kinoti stated that two senior investigating officers had tampered with the case and has ordered a public inquiry into the matter.

“Once we finish the inquiry and they are found culpable, we will charge them with conspiracy to defeat justice,” remarked Kinoti.

It is further claimed that the officers had presented a weak manslaughter charge before the postmortem results and ballistics report were done as reported by Nation.

Kinoti added that he had not been briefed of the case and learnt of the charges through the media.

“This is one of those cases I was not briefed at all by my officers.

"I only heard of the manslaughter charge from the media. Even the DPP was horrified,” said the DCI boss.

The tough talking Kinoti explained that the file presented at the court had missing crucial information that had been intentionally left out.

Assa Nyakundi's wife and son to testify against him

Lat Friday the embattled Nyakundi's troubles deepened after his wife Lydia and his eldest son Noah agreed to testify against him in court in a case in which he was accused of shooting dead his son Joseph Bogonko Nyakundi.

State Counsel Stella Oyagi had pleaded with the court to give strict bail terms arguing that some of the witnesses are his family members and live in the same house with the accused.

The proposal made, forced the lawyer to move out of his Muthaiga North Estate residence to a rented apartment in Kilimani, in Nairobi.
