Popular bus company Mash Poa has suspended its services to and from Western and Nyanza provinces.

The company has cited insecurity following the recent election protests as the reason behind the suspension.

“We have closed to secure our buses and also the lives of the passengers. If my property is destroyed, no one will pay me,” Mash East Africa General Manager Lennox Shallo was quoted by the Daily Nation.

Operations to and from Kisumu, Mumias, Kakamega and Malaba towns have been at a standstill since Saturday October 28.

A slump in business also contributed to the company’s closure of the offices.

“We had two buses operating to and from Nairobi carrying many passengers before the recently concluded election. However, we now only have a few people travelling,” he said.

Mr Shallo also revealed that business within Mombasa had slowed down following fewer travellers out of the county.

"Mombasa is safer. This may be the reason why people have postponed travelling."
