Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman John Mbadi has accused Deputy President Willaim Ruto and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen of misleading Kenyans on the Sh19 billion dams scandal.

Speaking on Monday, Mbadi further asked the two to resign from their positions after Treasury CS Henry Rotich was arrested over the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.

"DP Ruto and his henchmen, including Murkomen came out to publicly state that there was no impropriety in the matter. The indictment by the Director of Public Prosecution is, by extension, also an indictment of the DP and the senator. They should apologize for misleading Kenyans," Mbadi stated.

On his part, Senator Murkomen has termed the arrests by DCI as a charade aimed at creating an impression that the DPP is carrying out his mandate.

"I have looked at the charge sheets and I can tell you the entire thing is a charade.

"We are creating a narrative to show there is a fight against corruption, but behind the scenes, we are just exercising PR stunts to lie to Kenyans," he stated on Monday after making a visit to the DCI headquarters.

MPs support arrest

Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny lauded the DPP and DCI over the Monday arrests stating that it was the war against corruption.

"The indictments are a wake up call to those who are quick to defend corruption. When the matter was being investigated, they cast aspersions on the DPP and DCI but evidence has exposed them. They should not mislead people that it's a community being targeted. This is war against the corrupt," he stated.

Others who have showe support for the DPP's move include Senator Irungu Kang'ata and Senator Isaac Mwaura.
