During a trip to New York on Monday, Biden told reporters that a cease-fire could be in place as soon as next week.

"My national security advisor tells me that we're close. We're close. We're not done yet," Biden said. "My hope is by next Monday, we'll have a cease-fire."

<a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/israel-no-win-situation-gaza-after-months-war-crush-hamas-2024-1">Tensions</a> between Israel and Hamas were reignited in October after Hamas killed more than 1,000 people in large-scale terrorist attacks and kidnapped 200 people.

In the months since, <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-israel-trying-to-achieve-in-gaza-bombing-2023-12">the death toll in the Palestinian territory</a> of Gaza has topped 29,000 amid ongoing Israeli attacks, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Representatives from both sides are meeting this week to hash out a cease-fire that would pause the fighting in Gaza for six weeks and ensure the return of the remaining Israeli hostages.

Members of the Israel Defense Forces and Israeli Mossad and Shin Bet spy agencies held a round of talks in Doha with Egyptian and Qatari mediators on Monday.

Representatives from Hamas also met with mediators in the city, signaling that <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hamas-gaza-offer-50-hostages-5-day-ceasefire-israel-rejected-2023-11">talks are further along</a> than they have been since the war began.

Earlier this month, <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.npr.org/2024/02/07/1229823811/israel-hamas-war-netanyahu-rejects-hamas-ceasefire">Israel rejected a Hamas counter-offer</a> that would have implemented a four-and-a-half-month cease-fire, calling the plan "delusional" after meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The Biden Administration has doubled down on efforts to secure a cease-fire this month ahead of the start of Ramadan in two weeks.

Talks are expected to continue Tuesday.

<a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiger-woods-ends-nike-partnership-2024-1">Woods parted ways with Nike</a> after 27 years last month, but on Monday announced a new partnership with TaylorMade Golf.

Woods has long used TaylorMade clubs. The company also recently filed trademark applications for Woods' Sun Day Red brand — a nod to the red he wears golfing every Sunday as an homage to his mother, who said it was his "power color," according to The Associated Press.

He debuted the new look on Monday at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera in Los Angeles, wearing an off-white hoodie from the line. The brand officially launches in May.

The announcement came as a surprise to some golf insiders, who had predicted a collaboration with Greyson Clothiers. There had been clues that Woods would be turning to the company for his next partnership. Woods' 14-year-old son Charlie was spotted wearing some of Greyson's clothes over the weekend, <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.si.com/golf/news/tiger-woods-charlie-woods-nike-clothing-partnerhsip-greyson-justin-thomas">Sports Illustrated reported</a>.

On Saturday Woods shared an Instagram picture <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C3LPJ7PplOw/">teasing his announcement</a>. Fans were quick to note that his new Sun Day Redlogo could be seen on his glove.

Woods played all four rounds of the unofficial Hero World Challenge in December, his first competition in nearly eight months while he recovered from ankle surgery after the Masters. He's the tournament host for this year's Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour.

Woods' meteoric golfing career after his win at the 1997 Masters was topped only by his ability to clinch millions in endorsements. At his peak in the late 2000s, Woods made $100 million annually off the course, Forbes reported.

The endorsement income remained profitable for Woods even amid injuries and scandal. In 2009, after reports surfaced that he had been cheating on his wife at the time, Elin Nordegren, he crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant near his home in Florida. He came clean about multiple infidelities shortly after.

"I had affairs," he said in 2010, per The New York Times. "I was unfaithful. I cheated."

His ex-girlfriend Erica Herman dropped a sexual assault lawsuit against him last year.

Woods recently had surgery on his ankle, as well as four back surgeries, including one to fuse his lower spine following a car crash in Los Angeles in the days after the 2021 Genesis Invitational.

Forbes now lists his net worth at $1.1 billion.

Reps for Woods did not return Business Insider's request for comment.

Israeli authorities claim the militants conceal military operations in the Al Shifa Hospital. But with hundreds of patients and medical personnel inside, the military has refrained from entering.

In recent weeks, Israeli defense forces have publicly warned that such use of the hospital "jeopardizes its protected status under international law," the military said. On Tuesday, military officials conveyed again to Gaza authorities that all military activity in the hospital must cease within 12 hours.

"Unfortunately, it did not," the military said.

Hamas has denied the Israeli accusations that it uses the hospital for cover.

Doctors at the hospital told CNN that they were given 30 minutes of warning before the operation.

"We were asked to stay clear of the windows and the balconies," <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/15/middleeast/shifa-hospital-gaza-idf-intl/index.html">Dr Khaled Abu Samra told CNN</a>. "We can hear the armored vehicles, they are very close to the entrance of the complex."

Israeli military officials gave no further details but said they were taking steps to avoid harm to civilians.

The operation unfolded after the military seized broader control of northern Gaza on Tuesday, including capturing the territory's legislature building and its police headquarters, in gains that carried high symbolic value in the country's quest to crush Hamas.

"Ahead of the operation, we made an effort to evacuate the hospital from its patients and even opened a specific safe passage from the hospital. We notified the hospital's management ahead of the entry into the compound," the IDF said.

Doctors this week have pleaded for assistance amid failing power at the hospital.

"We don't have electricity. There's no water in the hospital. There's no food. People will die in a few hours without functioning ventilators," a doctor with the international humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders said in a Monday&nbsp;statement.

Al Shifa Hospital is one of at least four major hospitals in Gaza that have been forced to the front line of fighting in recent days.

Thousands, including doctors, patients, and those who fled their homes, are said to be sheltering there.

International organizations have warned of crises at multiple medical facilities, including Al Shifa, which is the biggest hospital in Gaza City.&nbsp;

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said the US has unspecified intelligence that Hamas and other Palestinian militants use Shifa and other hospitals and tunnels underneath them to support military operations and hold hostages.
