Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi is set to meet with leaders of the National Super Alliance (NASA) after concerns were raised that he was involved in a ploy to rig the August 8 General Election in favour of the Jubilee Party.
Matiang'i who is now the acting Interior and Coordination CS following the untimely death of Joseph Nkaissery, stated that he had organised an urgent meeting with the Opposition leaders to give them details of the security plan ahead of the much-awaited polls.
He rubbished allegations that he is being used by Jubilee to rig the election stating: "The government is not a party to the election. We provide security to everyone".
The no-nonsense minister highlighted that the main aim for the brief is to ensure transparency to all stakeholders involved in the General Election.
This Matiang'i said after a meeting with African Union Election Observer Group led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki, where he briefed AU team on Kenya’s security preparedness.
On Tuesday, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga alleged that Matiang’i has been secretly meeting IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati on how the rigging plan will be executed.
“This election will be a peaceful revolution. We want to warn Matiang’i. He is a player in the Jubilee team and cannot purport to be a neutral arbiter.
"Matiang‘i is trying to rig this election in the guise of acting on behalf of the state. We will not allow that to happen,” the former Prime minister stated.
