Argument over foul smelling shoes causes accident killing one in Siaya

An argument ensued between the driver and a mechanic over a pair of foul smelling shoes which made him lose control

A nasty road accident along the Kisumu-Siaya road claimed the life of one person and 41 others were injured after the bus they were travelling in rolled.

The driver of the Nairobi-bound Climax bus from Siaya lost control on reaching Ng'iya Sunday morning. The bus rolled several times before landing in a ditch.

Argument

One witness account claims that an argument ensued between the driver and a mechanic over a pair of foul smelling shoes. In the heat of the moment, the driver apparently became distracted and lost control of the bus.

A team from the Siaya County government’s Health department and Kenya Red Cross Society officials responded following the incident.

According to the acting Chief Officer of Health, Dr Omondi Owino, four ambulances together with a team of doctors and nurses were dispatched to the scene.

Vigilance urged

"Two survivors were taken to the theatre at Siaya County Referral Hospital where they are being treated. Doctors and nurses are also attending to other cases involving minor injuries," said Dr Owino.

Siaya County Director of Communications Jerry Sando urged motorists and other road users to be careful.
