2 Killed, Police Injured in Mombasa Attack

Tragic

Two employees of the Technical University of Mombasa were on Tuesday morning shot dead during an ambush in Ukunda, Kwale County.

Emerging reports indicate that 10 gunmen suspected to be part of the militia group Al Shabaab attacked a police vehicle that was ferrying the staff members from Diani to the University.

The suspected terrorists opened fire killing the TUM employees and two officers.

The police were escorting the deceased back to the Campus from Diani where they had a camp with some of the students.

The students’ bus was in front of the police van and were forced to run for safety when the attack happened.

A witness speaking to Reuters divulged: “A bus carrying students of TUM was ferrying them from their hostels to the campus in Ukunda for classes and was being escorted by a van that had some staff of the college and two escort police officers”.

"Armed men numbering about 10 emerged from the bushes and started firing at the van in front. As a result, two women who are staff of TUM were killed in the van. The driver of the van and two police officers were injured," the witness said.
