Why breast cancer is deadlier when it occurs in men
What men need to know about breast cancer.
But studies done have shown that when breast cancer occurs in men it is far deadlier.
This is because survival rates of men with breast cancer are significantly lower than women's.
Men with early-stage disease survived about 6 years, while women survived about 15 years. Men and women with advanced breast cancer at diagnosis, had the same survival times.
This could be because breast cancer in men develops more aggressively than it does in women. It also responds
differently.
Detecting breast cancer in men early is difficult.
The cancer in women spreads to the mammary glands first while in men it spreads into the lungs first.
The rarity of breast cancer in men makes it difficult to study. Most male breast cancer treatments are modeled on treatments for women.
