7 habits you should have if you want to successfully lose weight

Real Simple has compiled a list of the habits of people who have successfully lost weight.

1. Have dessert

It's OK to occasionally indulge in a slice of cake. However, experts recommend doing it after filling up of fruit, veggies and lean meat so as to make sure you don't over eat the dessert.

2. Share snacks with friends

When indulging in the bad habits, like a pizza or fries, always share with friends so as to reduce the intake of calories.

3. Don't obsessively check your weight

Checking your weight daily can lead to becoming addicted to the scale and losing track of your goals. Weigh yourself at the start of your diet/ exercise regimen and set periodic goals. for instance, lose 1kg after two weeks. Then you can observe your weight.

4. Make slow changes

Don't quit your bad habits cold turkey- unless you have the ability to. Slowly replace unhealthy foods with healthier options. This puts less pressure on you and allows you room to grow. Find the right pace for yourself.

5. Reset every Monday

Don't give up after a bad weekend where you indulged. Just reset when your week starts again. You're only human.

6. Find a workout that's fun

Don't get a routine that makes you feel as though you're doing a job. Get a fun and effective workout that doesn't drain your enthusiasm.

7. Write down your goals

Write down your goals and define them clearly. This makes them easy to remember and track down. It enhances your accountability.
