2 dead, 11 injured in road accident

Two people died on the spot while eleven others were rushed to hospital following a grisly road accident on Sunday.

The accident occurred after a speeding 14 seater matatu hit a motorcycle rider, killing the rider and the driver on the spot.

Eye witnesses recounted that the matatu lost control and rolled after hitting the motorcycle at Giacai village along the Kerugoya-Kutus road in Kirinyaga County.

11 people survived the accident and were rushed to Kerugoya Referral Hospital for treatment by good Samaritans who rushed to the scene.

Kirinyaga County Police boss, Leah Kithei confirmed the unfortunate incident and decried the rising number of lives lost in such accidents.

Ms Kithei confirmed that investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the accident.

She appealed to road-users especially motorists and boda boda riders to be careful on the roads in the wake of fatal accidents in the county.

Alarm over increase in accidents

On 11 July 2019, three people died after a motorcycle collided with a car along the Embu-Makutano road in Kirinyaga County.

The crash happened when the car, which was heading towards Ngurubani from Embu, hit the motorcycle that was ferrying two passengers, killing the rider and his passengers instantly.

Witnesses recounted that the driver of the car was overtaking another vehicle when he crashed into the motorcycle which was coming from the opposite direction, killing the three on the spot.
