2 killed in grisly accident as angry crowd sets vehicle on fire

Two people perished in a grisly road accident on Saturday evening when a matatu they were travelling in veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

The accident which happened along the Kapsowar-Eldoret highway is thelatest in a series of accidents in the month of December.

Reports indicate that the matatu driver was trying to overtake a lorry when he lost control and the vehicle skidded off the road, killing two boda boda riders.

The angry residents torched the matatu following the grisly accident while the two bodies were taken to Iten Referral Hospital.

Meanwhile, The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned Tahmeed Coach Limited officials over public complaints and reports of near fatal crashes.

We urge members of the public to report motorists endangering the lives of passengers or other road users to the nearest Police station or NTSA offices,” said George Njao, NTSA Director General.

Last week, NTSA suspended the operational licence of Modern Coast bus after a fatal accident along Mombasa-Nairobi highway that saw 7 people dead and 72 injured.

The company’s access to the NTSA portal has been deactivated to limit any activities on their 88 vehicles, as the investigation continues,” read the statement.
