Reports by an international media site indicated that the incident occurred on Friday morning in Harrison County, Texas.
The man identified as Allan Onucko, was hit by an 18-wheeler truck as he went to buy diesel from a petrol station that was 300 metres away from where the car had broken down.
Onucko, who was accompanied by his younger brother George Gilbert Otieno during the delivery, was supposed to attend his baby shower on Saturday before the tragedy occurred.
Everlyn Nashipai, who is the wife to the deceased was left in shock after receiving the news.
“I couldn't believe it. I think I'm still in shock because he was just here,” stated Nashipai.
Onucko’s aunt, Susan Oloo-Oruya, pointed out that the family was devastated by the news of the tragedy.
“He was knocked down on the highway in Texas by the biggest of trucks and he stood no chance. We are devastated, distraught and shattered,” remarked Oruya.
Financial help for burial
The accident led to the closure of the road for several hours after a huge traffic jam occurred at the Interstate 20 highway.
Police reports pointed out that the driver of the truck was not hurt during the incident.
The family explained that they required financial help from well wishers in order to facilitate the transportation of the body back to Kenya where Onucko would be buried.
“His parents would like him to be buried in his land.
“As you can imagine, that's a huge expense,” remarked the wife to the deceased.
Nashipai highlighted that she had hope that she will take care of the unborn child, daughter and stepdaughter and tell them of the kind of father they had.
