Education CS Amina insists that schools will reopen tomorrow

It’s TSC against Knut

CS Amina Mohammed(The Standard)

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has made it clear that schools will still reopen tomorrow.

This comes a day after Knut declared that their strike is still on unless TSC meets their demands. Knut gave their strike threat in December protesting lack of promotions, performance contracting and unapproved transfers of teachers.

On Tuesday, Knut and TSC officials were supposed to hold a conciliatory meeting which the latter failed to show up.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, Amina cited that the government is ready to ensure all schools are open tomorrow despite the strike threats by Knut. She added that the TSC has full support from the government in regards to the strike issue.

Regarding the new curriculum, Amina noted that they are ready to roll it out on Thursday hence no further delays as was anticipated. All the guidelines have been set, and the Ministry of Education is working together with the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to ensure that books are availed on time.

Principal Secretary of education Belio Kipsang also gave a stern warning to head teachers who are issuing secondary school admission letters directly to parents. Kipsang added that only letters downloaded from the ministry’s website are valid.
