Khalwale given a dog’s beating, forced to run away in Kibra [Video]

Shots fired as Khalwale is attacked 2nd time

Boni Khalwale given a dog’s beating, forced to run away as Kibra by-election turns violent

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Thursday escaped death by a whisker after rowdy youth roughed him up, pelted stones in his direction, forcing his bodyguards to shoot in air to disperse the angry crowd.

Khalwale was at the Kibra's Social Grounds polling station where he was observing the voting exercise when a section of youths accused him of voter bribery.

A video shared online showed the youths shouting at Khalwale as others attempted to beat him up with a bodyguard serving as the shield.

At one point, the youths overpowered the bodyguard after which Khalwale took to his heels swiftly running from the hostile crowd.

A man from the crowd is seen throwing a stone at the former senator who appeared to have ducked it by kneeling to the ground. The man then swiftly tackles him to the ground - and bullet shots are immediately fired in the air before the video abruptly ends.

Journalists who witnessed the ground told Pulse Live Kenya that Khalwale was eventually rescued from the incident that served as one of the ugliest instances of violence in the relative peaceful exercise.

Incidentally, Khalwale had on Thursday morning faced a hostile crowd in Laini Saba which pelted stones in his direction, forcing him to flee. The crowd, however, did not rough him up as was the case at Social Grounds.

Khalwale is one of the chief campaigners in Jubilee Candidate McDonald Mariga's campaign team.

Mariga is one of the perceived main contenders alongside ODM's Bernard Okoth, and ANC's Eliud Owalo.
