City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has claimed that the building bridges committee formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Leader Raila Odinga has been secretly drafting a new constitution.
Abdullahi made the allegations on his Twitter account but did not offer evidence for his claims.
“BREAKING NEWS....A technical committee of 14 under the auspices of the handshake initiative and the Office of the President is SECRETLY writing a new constitution for Kenya,” he tweeted on Thursday morning.
March 9 handshake
The Senior Counsel has in the past represented both President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
The 14-member Building Bridges initiative was gazette in May 2018 with a one-year mandate to give a detailed report on the steps Kenya should take to achieve the unity envisioned by the March 9 handshake.
The task force is co-chaired by senators Yusuf Haji (Garissa) and Amos Wako (Busia).

Other members incude Adams Oloo , Agnes Kavindu, Florence Omose, Saeed Mwanguni, James Matundura, Major John Seii, Bishop Lawi Imathiu, Maison Leshomo, Morompi ole Ronkai Prof., Bishop Peter Njenga, Rose Moseu, and Archbishop Zecheus Okot.
Amb. Martin Kimani and Odinga’s legal advisor Paul Mwangi are the joint secretaries.
The taskforce has been collecting views from members of the public across the country ahead of presentation of the full report before May.
Several Kenyans who have appeared the committee has recommended a referendum to change the structure of government.
