Deputy President, William Ruto caused a stir on Twitter and found himself on the receiving end after sending a birthday message to President Uhuru Kenyatta in which he delved into his retirement and an agreement they had.

"Happy birthday to my friend & Boss H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta. You are a great inspiration to me, Jubilee leadership and millions of Kenyans as the youngest President we've ever had. As we age, I look forward to what we agreed on to do when we retire. Remember? Ubarikiwe mpaka Ushangae!" Wrote Ruto.

His messages however sparked controversy and saw netizens take to Twitter with their own interpretation and questioning the fate of DP Ruto's ambitions to succeed President Kenyatta in 2022.

Many interpreted DP Ruto's message to mean that the two would retire together at the end of President Kenyatta's current term in 2022.

Many dismissed DP Ruto’s wishes as a PR exercise in futility, noting that President Uhuru Kenyatta is not on Twitter.

Migwi Mwenja demanded to be told what the President and his deputy agreed on, stating: “Tuambie kenye Mliagree”.

Others took a swipe at the DP for referring to the President as his boss at a time when he has defied his orders on numerous occasions, the most notable one being his order to stop pre-mature campaigns for 2022 and focus on development.

“Your Boss whom you have a record in defying his orders.” Wrote Slyh Mzalendo.
