Reports indicate that the detectives arrived at the Governor’s residence few minutes to 5am in search of documents in the ongoing corruption probe in Kiambu County. 15 other county officials are also targeted in the ongoing investigations.
The Kiambu governor, who has been on the EACC radar over questionable expenditure at the county in the last financial year, is facing allegations of procurement irregularities, including the Kaa Sober programme, which was aimed at rehabilitating alcoholics.
Waititu has also been questioned over his recent property acquisitions, including that of a building located within the Central Business District (CBD).
However, In March Waititu through the Kiambu CEC for Sports Karungo Wa Thang’wa, claimed the investigations are politically influenced due to his support for Deputy President William Ruto.
“The Governor is in full support of the war on corruption, however, this cannot be achieved through intimidating leaders who support Deputy President William Ruto. From the ongoing arrests and intimidation, it is no longer a secret that this is 2022 politics at play and the players behind the scheme are known. Let them remain assured that we are strongly behind our deputy party leader,” he said.
