War on graft intensified

EACC arrests DCI officer Boniface Karuami while receiving a bribe in Eldoret

Detectives attached to the Ethics and Antic Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday arrested another detective attached to the Directorate of Criminal investigation who was in the process of receiving a bribe.

EACC said its officers had arrested Police Constable Boniface Mulei Karuami while he was soliciting a bribe of Ksh 30,000 from a proprietor of a primary School in Eldoret town.

The incident was part of a renewed effort by the EACC to do be more proactive in the fight against graft which has mainly been perceived as being spearheaded by the office of the DCI and the DPP.

On the same day, EACC detectives arrested a Judiciary employee, Moses Gitonga Mucheke based at Marimanti Law Courts in Tharaka Nithi County for soliciting and receiving a bribe of Ksh50,000 from a man whose brother is facing a charge of defilement in court .

Despite the numerous arrests of suspected corrupt officers, the antigraft commission has received relatively less public support owing to the fact that most of their arrests are low-profile.
