Planning Principal Secretary Julius Muia has advised Kenyans not to discard their national Identity Cards as the Huduma Namba is rolled out.

Dr Muia explained that the Huduma Namba may take a while to become fully implemented and in the meantime IDs will continue to be the primary identifier.

He noted that the driving license, the National Hospital Insurance Fund card and other identifiers have not been phased out and will not be phased out soon.

He, however, explained that those registered in NIIMS before attaining the age of 18 will be able to get their IDs quicker than their counterparts who are not in the system.

"Young Huduma Namba holders will be able to access the national identity card easier compared to those without the number when they turn 18.

"The available database will have indicated that the applicants have attained 18 years and therefore have qualified for identity cards by the time they apply for the identity cards," he stated.

Over 15 million registered on Huduma Namba

Interior CS Fred Matiang'i on Wednesday noted that the campaign for registration has seen about Sh15.3 million Kenyans turn up.
