Find a place in your heart and forgive me - Echesa's message to Uhuru

Find a place in your heart and forgive me - Echesa's message to Uhuru

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has made reference to his sacking from the cabinet with a plea for forgiveness from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Echesa insisted that nearly three months since his sacking, he was yet to understand why the President fired him.

He, however, did not rule out that his sacking had something to do with his support for Deputy President William Ruto.

If supporting you to be re-eected for the second time is the mistake that I did, I want you Mr President to find a place in your heart and forgive me. If supporting William Ruto could be the cause, I better be told. Supporting Ruto is not a matter of death but I need to find my peace,” Echesa said.

The statement came only a few days after the former Sports CS spent the weekend in state custody after he was arrested in connection with the Matungu killings.

Echesa was picked up by detectives last Friday, shortly after leaving a rally addressed by Ruto in Kakamega.

He was held at Nandi Hills Police Station before his release on Sunday night.

The former CS has since moved to sue senior government officials including Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, and Inspector General Mutyambai – saying his arrest was unlawful and a trampled on his human rights.
