The Nairobi Hospital has released a new statement affirming that cases of cholera infections at the facility have risen.

Communication Officer Tom Simba on Thursday told reporters that the number of staff members under treatment for the infection stood at 52.

He added that they are all admitted at the premier health facility within the hospital.

On Tuesday, the hospital assured the public that no patients had been affected by the outbreak and no one had succumbed to the cholera infection with 23 confirmed cases at the time.

The number that has nearly doubled has raised concern among members of the public with reports that eateries around the facility have witnessed walk-outs from customers.

Nairobi Health CEC Mohamed Dagane also conducted a site visit at the facility as soon as the cases were confirmed and relayed that the hospital was managing the situation well.

"W have reviewed the situation and are satisfied that the hospital has put in place sufficient mechanisms to deal with the situation.

"So far, there is no confirmed cholera fatality in the hospital. We have been assured that our disease surveillance officers will be accorded unrestricted access to monitor the situation over the next seven days or more if need be," the statement read in part.
