I was unconscious for more than a week - Jubilee Secretary Genera Raphael Tuju opens up on road accident

Jubilee Secretary Genera Raphael Tuju has finally opened up on a terrible road accident that nearly ended his life on the morning of February 12th as he was traveling to Kabarak for burial of former President Daniel arap Moi.

Tuju spoke to a local daily where he revealed his battle with severe injuries that left him unconscious for days.

The Cabinet Secretary said his last memory of the accident was Sports CS Amina Mohamed coordinating his rescue and evacuation to Kijabe Hospital where he was given emergency surgery before being airlifted to the Karen Hospital later in the day.

From the scene of the accident, Tuju said he was unconscious for several days and only became aware of his surroundings a few days later at a London hospital where he was flown for specialized treatment.

He had broken twelve of his ribs and three vertebrae - the latter posing a big threat to his spine.

The visit to London was for the vertebrae surgery which was a delicate process aimed at protecting his spine.

The former Rarieda MP said the broken ribs posed a lot of pain which he says he would not wish on his worst enemy.

The injuries had also caused internal bleeding which saw him lose a lot of blood and subsequently shed off a lot of weight.

Tuju is thankful to God whom he credits for saving his life. He also expressed gratitude to his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who ensured he got the best care as well as to the many Kenyans who prayed for his recovery.
