Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has not taken kindly her exclusion from a lunch meeting presided over by ODM Leader Raila Odinga in Burma market.

The casual lunch was hosted by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and saw Odinga interact with traders and residents at the busy market.

Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and area MP George Aladwa were also part of the delegation.

However, Passaris said the meeting was a manifestation of what she termed as “boys club” mentality and went against the spirit of gender representation.

In a post on her Twitter account, the Woman Representative promised that she would not have “over-eaten” if at all the male politicians were concerned about the lunch’s budget.

Gender Balance

#GenderBalance I promise I wouldn't have over eaten and burst your budget if you invited me as the duly elected Woman Rep. This 'boys club' mentality needs to be checked. 50% of our population are women. We have been told to fight for our space. #SDG5 #RespectWomenLeaders,” she said.

Neither Sakaja nor Odinga had responded to her concerns, by the time of publishing this report.

Passaris has in the past complained over exclusion by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in various county projects in the city.
