Death in Kibra amid demands for Imran Okoth to be removed from November 7 race

Kibra by-election takes deathly turn

Jubilee MPs call for Imran Okoth to be disqualified from November 7 by-election

A man has been pronounced dead following a tragic accident that took place during by-election campaigns in Kibra Constituency on Sunday afternoon.

The man, who is yet to be identified, was ran over by a campaign caravan after he fell off a Toyota Prado that was in the convoy at Yaya Centre.

Nairobi County Police Commander Philip Ndolo confirmed the incident adding that the man is said to have hopped onto the Prado as ODM politicians left the Kibra DC grounds.

After falling off the high-end vehicle, the man was ran over by the cars that were behind the Prado and he died on the spot.

Calls for Imran Okoth to be disqualified

The tragic death occurred just a day after Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga's campaign caravan was pelted with stones by rowdy youth in the constituency.

A section of Jubilee party MPs have blamed the incident on the ODM party candidate, Imran Okoth, demanding that he should be disqualified from the race.

Lang'ata MP Nixon Korir and his Kikuyu counterpart Kimani Ichung'wa have asked the IEBC to disqualify Imran on what they claim to be election malpractice.

The two MPs also suffered an attack while attending a church service at the PCEA Emmanuel Church in Makina, Kibra on Sunday.

"It is shameful the youths who attacked Mr Mariga’s convoy yesterday have followed us here and destroyed window panes," MP Korir remarked.
