The accident involved a school bus carrying St. Gabriel Mwingi Primary pupils and a truck.
The pupils were coming from a trip to Mombasa when their bus collided with the truck and rolled into Tyaa River.
According to Kitui OCPD Muthuri Mwongera, the casualties have been rushed to Mwingi Level IV hospital for treatment.

Kitui County Health Chief Officer Dr. Mukula Muthoka said that six of the students were in critical condition and have been referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.
The driver of the truck has since been arrested and will be charged with dangerous driving.
