7 perish in another grisly road accident

More deaths as latest accident claims 7 lives

The accident occured along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway when the matatu attempted to overtake before colliding head-on with a lorry.

Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Zero Arome confirmed the accident which happened barely a week after 30 people perished in an accident at Sachang’wan along the same highway.

This comes as the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) stepped up efforts to reduce accidents that have been on the rise.

Speaking after an accident along the Nakuru- Eldoret highway, an official from NTSA disclosed that plans are underway to construct a dual carriage way at Sachang’wan  to address the current problem.

Last Monday, 19 people perished at Kamukuywa bridge along the Kitale-Webuye road in a week that has seen one of the highest numbers of fatalities and accidents.

The worrying trend has come to the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During the Jamhuri day celebrations, the President directed the Kenya Police Service to take stern action against motorists flouting traffic rules especially during the festive season.
