The Silly Mistake that Got Babu Owino Arrested

Here it is

At the time of the arrest, it was not clear why Babu, former Starehe parliamentary aspirant Steve Mbogo and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang were apprehended.

However, police have now divulged that the three leaders were taken into custody for riding on motorcycles without putting on a helmets as required by law.

The Traffic Act states: "A person, including a passenger, shall not ride on a motorcycle of any kind, class or description without wearing a helmet and a jacket that has reflectors".

Failure to comply with this is liable to a fine not exceeding ten thousand shillings or, in default of payment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months.

The three were released and ordered to report back to Kilimani Police Station for further investigations, failure to obey this they will be prosecuted.

This came hours after police frustrated every effort of NASA leaders to hold a political rally ahead of the arrival of their principal Raila Odinga.

The Opposition was scheduled to have a rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Shauri Moyo area, Nairobi County, but the location was cordoned off.

They then decided to relocate to Jamhuri Grounds in Kibra but heavily armed police officers were deployed at the location.

At the same time, police officers blocked NASA leaders from holding a press conference at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
