Seven people perished on Saturday morning in a grisly road accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
The accident occurred when a van carrying mourners crashed into a Nairobi- bound lorry, leaving at least five people dead with several other injured.
Mukaa Police boss Charles Muthui confirmed the incident which occurred at Kalimbini area along the busy highway on Saturday morning.
It is not clear how many people were in the van with rescue efforts underway.
December has seen the highest number of road accidents with more than a hundred people losing their lives.
The highest number of casualties was recorded on 12 December in an accident involving several vehicles which left 30 people dead with several others seriously injured.
Following a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Jamhuri day, various agencies swung into action in a bid to tame the rising number of fatal accidents.
Judging by the rising number of fatal crashes, the efforts are yet to bear fruits as the festive season continues.
