There was not a dry eye in sight as Steve Mwangi and Maryanne Wanjiku aged 11 and five respectively were laid to rest at their home in Rongai area,
The children were said to have been brutally stabbed to death by their father in Kiganjo, Kiambu County after a domestic quarrel between their mum Jane Ndegwa and her husband.
Speaking at the funeral Kieni MP Kanini Kega called for the death penalty for the killer and not life in prison, he vowed to amend the constitution alongside other lawmakers to allow for hanging of killers.
“Sheria iko na inasema kwamba unapelekwa Kamiti na unanyongwa hiyo maneno tutarudisha kwenye katiba. Hatuwezi kuwa na watu wanaenda kortini wanapewa bail unawakuta after three days wanafanya kitendo kile kile.Tutarekebisha Katiba turudishe hiyo adhabu ya kifo tuhakikishe kwamba mtu akifanya makosa ya kjinai pia yeye ananyongwa.” (There was a law that stipulated that killers should be sent to Kamiti and killed and we will amend the constitution to bring it back. We cannot have people going to court, getting bail and in three days they are repeating the crime they were taken to court for. The death penalty will be coming back soon to ensure that killers get hanged.)
