CJ Maraga intervenes after brutal murder of 9-year-old girl

The body of the girl who went missing 10 days ago was discovered in a forest.


The girl, Maribel Kapolon, who was the daughter of Githongo Law Courts Senior Magistrate Caroline Kemei, was reported missing in Nairobi after she failed to make her way home on leaving school.

CJ Maraga has already made contact with the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr Fred Matiang'i and the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti over the gruesome murder who assured him that everything will be done to bring those culpable to book.

"I would like to assure you that every effort is being made to find and punish her killers. I am aware that the circumstances behind her tragic death. On behalf of my family, the entire judiciary and on my own behalf, I wish to express our deeepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family of Maribel," Maraga said in his condolence message.

Kidnapping incident

The girl was reportedly kidnapped on September 6 while on her way home from school.

Maribel, who had just been dropped by the school bus, was in the company of other children when an unidentified man called her to his car.

“A day before her kidnap, someone claimed to be her uncle. Another man then called her the following day and she ran towards him and we assume she knew him,” a police officer privy to the investigations was quoted by the Standard as saying.
