Student suspect in Moi Girls School fire taken to Mathari Hospital
The 14-year old was this week arrested and arraigned in court.
The girl was on Thursday taken to the mental hospital in Nairobi for mental evaluation.
The form one student was on Wednesday arraigned before the Milimani Children Court's magistrate Theresa Nyangena in relation to the death of nine students during last week's Moi Girls School fire.
The magistrate ordered that the 14-year-old be detained for 7 days as the police complete investigations.
The unidentified student was arrested at their home in Thome Estate where the police confiscated a phone, a laptop and a sim card registered in her mum’s name.
Detectives say they are also keen to establish the girl's upbringing from her parents. Police say initial reports from the school indicate that the parents had been summoned on several occasions to discuss challenges she was facing.
According to students at the school, the girl had attempted to commit suicide son several occassions.
The girl was arrested soon after Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i disclosed that the horrific fire at Moi Girls School, Nairobi was not an accident.
