2 dead, 27 injured in another nasty accident

The latest accident involved a head on collision involving two 14-seater matatus.

The accident occurred near Mutonga bridge in Meru County on Sunday night after a head on collision involving two 14-seater matatus.

The two matatus involved in the accident belong to the Meru Nissan and Mekina Saccos.

According to eye witnesses the Mekina Sacco matatu was overtaking on the climbing lane when it hit the other matatu killing the driver on the spot.

Area residents have been urged by the Red Cross to volunteer and donate blood at the Chogoria hospital to help the injured passengers.

Reckless driver

Meru Nissan Sacco assistant chairperson, Ms Wanja Karuku, asked drivers to follow traffic laws and avoid unnecessary rush while pointing an accusing  finger at the Mekina Sacco driver whom she accused of being reckless.

"This Mekina Sacco driver has three accident cases pending in court but he is still on the road,” said MS Karuku.
