No matatus in CBD from Monday - Sonko issues new notice

Commuters in Nairobi will have to walk long distances to connect from one terminus to the other

This is according to a new notice published by acting County Secretary Pauline Kahiga-Waititu, that will see matatus park at designated termini away from the Central Business District (CBD).

"It is notified to the Public Service Vehice (PSV) operators and the public that the Nairobi City County Government made changes to the omnibus termini and routes contained in the gazette notice as follows.

"All routes accessing the CBD from Waiyaki Way/ Uhuru Highway, Kipande Road and Limuru Road [will have their stage at] Murang'a Road (Fig Tree) Terminus A," the notice read in part.

Routes and their new Termini

PSVs accessing the CBD from Thika Road up to and including Ruiru and Kiambu Road will pick passengers and drop them at Fig Tree terminus B.

Muthurwa terminus will be the end point for all vehicles from Jogoo Road and Lusaka Road.

Park road terminus will be designated to pick and drop all passengers going past Kenol on Nyeri/Meru-Nairobi road and all upcountry PSVs accessing the CBD through Waiyaki Way.

Ngara Road terminus will be a reserve for all vehicles from Juja Road, Ring Road Ngara and Park Road while Desai Service Road terminus will be used by vehicle athta go past Ruiru but branch off before or at Kenol.

All urdban and peri-urban routes from Mombasa Road/ Lang'ata Road will use the Hakati terminus while Ngong Road PSVs will use the Railways terminus.

Cancelled Gazette Notices

Governor Mike Sonko has previously cancelled similar gazette notices after public uproar.

In the Thursday notice, however, the county secretary emphasized that the county administration would be operationilising their notice without fail.

"The operators are required to take note that the above changes take effect as from the 3rd day of December 2018 and all previous gazette notices/as picking and dropping areas within CBD are hereby revoked and become null and void," the statement read.
