Why we need Alfred Keter back in Parliament despite losing his seat

Why Alfred Keter shouldn't have lost his seat.

Judge Kimondo nullified Keter’s election on grounds of massive illegalities and irregularities in the election process.

Having lost the petition, Alfred addressed the crowd and said that he is being persecuted for his stand against corruption.

Alfred is one of the valuable leaders we have in the nation because he does not sing to the tune of the executive always despite being a Jubilee MP.

As a country, we need Keter in Parliament because he has proven that he is an independent thinker. We need such leaders who will go against the grain and stand up to the leadership and hold them to account for wrongdoing.

It was recently revealed in the Daily Nation that Keter said, "Members are scared of contributing to critical issues like corruption and the government’s insatiable appetite for loans, lest they are branded rebels.”

The legislature should be an independent arm of government. Therefore the Executive should work as partners with Parliament and not by directly strong-arming their decisions.

The Jubilee side is growing to be a very powerful outfit seeing that the opposition is grappling with disunity and in-fighting. A recent abrasive letter written by ODM deputy party leader Ali Hassan Joho addressed to Wiper party on the utterances of Farah Maalim.

The letter reveals how the NASA household is crumbling. This leaves jubilee with no formidable opposition.

That is why we need voices like Keter who dare to oppose the Jubilee leadership so as to keep them in check.

Corruption has been the major cancer that has eaten into our system of government and so far, no tangible effort has been taken by the Jubilee government to prosecute those found culpable.

It is only bold voices like Alfred Keter who can help keep the government on its toes.
