Iconic World Cup Trophy Arrives In Uganda
The World Cup trophy is in Kampala for public viewing
Coca Cola is giving football fans an opportunity to view the trophy ahead of the World Cup tournament which starts June 15 in Russia.
This is the second time the World Cup trophy is coming to Uganda, the first being in November 2009 in the run-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament.
The iconic World Cup trophy will be hosted by President Museveni at State House in Entebbe before being taken to Century bottling company headquarters at Namanve.
The president will be the only person who will be allowed to hold the prestigious trophy in a move aimed at ensuring the safety of the 18 karat gold trophy. Several private security and state agencies will be tasked with the safety of the trophy
Uganda is among the only ten African countries to host the trophy – the next leg of the World Cup tour trophy will be hosted in the Nigerian cities of Abuja and Lagos on from 7-8 March and 9-10 March respectively.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup trophy tour commenced in September last year in Russia and will visit more than 50 countries and regions across six continents before the tour ends in the Russia city of Vladivostok on 1 May.
32 countries will be competing in this year’s World Cup tournament and a total of 64 games will be played to decide the winner of the FIFA World Cup.
