Nairobi, Kiambu, Bungoma and Kakamega are the most populated counties as per the 2019 Census by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
Nairobi has a total population of 4,394,073 while Kiambu has 2,417,705 inhabitants and Kakamega 1,867,579.
Bungoma has a population of 1,607,570 as per the report released on Monday by KNBS at State House Nairobi.
The least populous counties are Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River and Taita Taveta.
According to KNBS data, Lamu has a population of 143,920 while Isiolo has a population of 268,002.
Samburu, Tana River and Taita Taveta have a population of 310,327, 315,943 and 340,671 respectively.
Uhuru directs all ministries to use Census report for planning
While receiving the report, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged all government ministries to use the census report for planning purposes.
"We direct all ministries, departments and government agencies to utilize the census report results in their planning processes. I also urge county gov’ts, stakeholders and development partners to do the same," Kenyatta stated.
The census exercise was carried out by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) from August 24th - 31st 2019 and involved 138,572 enumerators, 22,268 content supervisors and 2,467 ICT supervisors.
