Shock as woman dies during police recruitment

Last year, a man died in similar circumstances in Kwale County.

The National Police Service on Thursday conducted the recruitment of 10,000 officers at different centres across the country.

However, the exercise was overshadowed in Bungoma County after a woman collapsed and died during the recruitment.

27-year-old Nipher Wamocho from Lugusi Village collapsed during an athletic exercise after fainting at Pan Paper Stadium and efforts to resuscitate her failed at the Webuye Sub County Hospital.

She was later confirmed dead at the hospital.

National Police Service commission Chairman Johnstone Kavuludi said it was unfortunate that Wamocho died when she was ready to serve her country.

"We are very sad that we have lost a Kenyan who had a future,” he said.

Nipher’s body was taken to Nyayo mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Kenyans between the ages of 18 and 28 and who scored a D Plus and above in KCSE are eligible.

The recruits will undergo a nine-month training at Kenya Police Training College in Kiganjo and Embakasi's Administration Police Training College.

They are expected to report for the training on May 19.

Recruits must also obtain clearance from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation with candidates required to present their academic certificates at recruitment centres.

Last year, a man died in similar circumstances after taking part in a six-kilometre race during a police recruitment in Kwale County Hospital.
