The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) has opposed the naming of retired Chief of Defence Forces General Julius Karangi as Chairman of the NSSF board, saying the appointment posed a threat to its Secretary General Francis Atwoli.
Cotu's First Secretary Ernest Nadome claimed that the recent appointment of General Karangi was part of a ploy aimed at removing Atwoli and Jacqualine Mugo from the NSSF board of trustees.
Atwoli has served on the NSSF board for the past 17 years with the government insisting that his stay in the board is contrary to the NSSF Act that sets a maximum of two three-year terms for board members.
During his vetting, Labour CS Ukur Yattani assured Parliament that he would reconstitute the NSSF board to align with the NSSF Act.
