Orengo sends urgent message to Chebukati

Just in

Senate Minority Leader James Orengo has now demanded the immediate resignation of IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and the remaining commissioners at the electoral commission.

In a press statement on Monday evening, Orengo stated that the resignation of three IEBC commissioners had confirmed the Opposition's insistence that the electoral body was not capable of carrying out a fair election.

He added that the exit had also offered a new opportunity for major reforms at the IEBC in line with the pursuit of electoral justice advanced by NASA leader Raila Odinga.

"Chebukati must now lead the other commissioners out of IEBC by tendering his resignation letter together with those of the other remaining Commissioners and the entire secretariat".

The Senior Counsel reiterated the call for changes in the constitution to allow for a parliamentary system of government.

"The debate on electoral justice should include a discussion on the structure of the Executive. Its present design is incompatible with the creation of a nation based on inclusivity, protection of the well-being of communities and the nation," Orengo stated.
