Zimbabwe security agencies issue rare threat to President Uhuru

The new President took office after a coup by the Zimbabwe army

Harare-based newspaper, Daily News reported that the Zimbabewan police and security officials had been upset by the fact that Kenya was offering exile to a former minister who served in fallen President Robert Mugabe’s government.

Professor Jonathan Moyo fled the country after President Emmerson Mnangagwa took office, and has been actively castigating the new regime from his Twitter account.

The former Education minister is one of the Mugabe allies who were wanted by the Zimbabwean army in an operation that resulted in Mugabe’s resignation.

President Mnangagwa’s spokesman confirmed that the matter was “an operation issue” that was being handled by security officials.

The Zimbabweans have warned that Kenya was betraying the good relations between the country countries.

In a thin-veiled threat, Harare reminded Nairobi that there are also Kenyan immigrants in Zimbabwe who would now be allowed “now be allowed to voice their dislike for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government’.

Moyo is married to a Kenyan and has a past working relationship with renowned political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi.

The former minister’s assets have also been frozen in connection to a Sh40 million alleged scandal at the Zimbabwean Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef).
