A team of DM legislators led by James Orengo have made their stand on Raila Odinga’s candidature in 2022 as the field of those seeking to fly the ODM flag in 2022 gets crowded.
The leaders maintained that Odinga remains the best bet to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and warned those writing off the NASA leader to do so at their own risk.
Raila’s elder brother Oburu Oginga stated that the ODM party leader is in high spirit, well rejuvenated and is charismatic enough to contest the presidency one more time.
“Those who are casting aspersions about Raila should know that he is not politically fatigued as they think. Those who think so are mistaken,” Oburu said.
“I want to tell those who are trying to overlook Raila that they should not write him off. Raila is politically dynamic and more re-energised and focused,” he added.
His stand was supported by Siaya senator James Orengo and a host of other legislators including Cornel Rasanga (Siaya Governor) and MPs Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Samwel Atandi (Alego Usonga).
The leaders who were speaking at an event in Siaya maintained that Odinga will still fly the ODM flag in 2022 and warned that it is not right for ODM MPs to shift allegiance just because Raila stated that he did not wat to discuss 2022 succession politics.
MPs from Coast, Nyamira have been sending mixed signals on supporting Odinga and are warming up to DP William Ruto who has also expressed interest to succeed President Kenyatta.
Leading the onslaught against ODM is Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa who has openly declared support for the DP and broken ranks with the party.
